Title: Samsung and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Develop New Secure Mobile Technology Publish Date: 10.8.2018 Category: Apps & Services Orlando, FL – October 8, 2018 – Today at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) (Booth #1421), Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced it is partnering with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) Enterprise Information Services (EIS) Division to develop a new mobile solution that supplements existing public safety communication systems. The custom solution will include an Agent Alert messaging system exclusively for CDCR law enforcement personnel to communicate with Command Central, and an SOS application function for supporting them if they are caught in an adverse situation. Customized with Samsung Knox Configure for Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Agent Alert is a secure messaging app that can be initiated from the Galaxy smartphone or a single web console to allow central command to distribute both critical and non-emergency messages to anyone within the department as needed. By moving this critical communications functionality away from computer-aided dispatch (CAD), CDCR is helping to ensure consistent communications among its teams. “Communications among first responders and agents in the field, which still rely in many parts of the United States on outdated technology, are ripe for transformation,” said Reginald Jones, U.S. Head of Public Safety, Samsung Electronics America. “The solution CDCR is deploying leverages the latest in mobile technology to ensure real-time awareness and secure communications around high risk situations. It’s an important step towards this overall transformation and modernization of public safety communications, which Samsung is committed to helping achieve.” Samsung and EIS, CDCR’s technology team, will also soon deploy a customized SOS application, which allows personnel to communicate critical situational information to Command Central when encountering adverse events. When the alert button on the customized device is pressed, Command Central can assess the information provided, and quickly dispatch the appropriate help to the location based on type of incident and level of threat. The solution facilitates ongoing communication between dispatched personnel by text. All Samsung Galaxy devices come equipped with defense-grade security platform Samsung Knox so agents can ensure mission-sensitive data is protected, whether they are at their desk or out in the field. Samsung will display CDCR’s new Agent Alert App solution alongside its portfolio of Samsung and partner-developed police and first responder solutions at its booth at IACP. Solutions on display will include the following: Mobile First with Samsung DeX. Samsung DeX, short for “desktop experience,” provides a PC-like experience from a Galaxy device. Partners including Havis, D&R Electronics, iKey, Xenarc, Gamber-Johnson, RAM Mounts, and Lectronix will demonstrate how they are leveraging DeX in their public safety solutions. Hands-Free Geolocation and Communication. Watches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and the Samsung Gear S3 will be on display. These devices play a key role in public safety, allowing hands free communication in the field, as well as GPS geolocation services, messaging, voice communications and SOS alerts—all without needing the smartphone close by. Computer-aided dispatch: Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure, Motorola Solutions, Central Square Technologies (TriTech), RapidDeploy and Tyler Technologies will demonstrate CAD solutions on Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Records management: SceneDoc will showcase its applications that leverage Samsung mobile technology for data and evidence collection and a streamlined electronic citation process. Mobile Innovations and NicheRMS will also demonstrate their mobile solutions in the space.
